Course summary
School nurses provide a unique service within the healthcare industry delivering a complex range of services to students, staff and the broader school community. A vast majority of school nurses work as solo practitioners delivering high-quality outcomes that span the physical, emotional and mental health of young adults and staff.
The 2-day workshop is an opportunity to build a range of skills and knowledge that can be immediately applied to the practice of School Nursing. The course is built from the key principle of the Secondary School Nursing Program which understands that nurses:
- Play a key role in reducing negative health outcomes and risk-taking behaviours
- Focus on prevention of ill health and problem behaviours by ensuring coordination between the school and community-based health
- Support the school community in addressing contemporary health and social issues
