Components of the learning pathway

 

Level 2: Course in Immunisation Practice in Primary Healthcare

In response to COVID-19 and the ongoing challenges for students to undertake clinical practice in a 3rd party workplace, we have introduced the option for students to complete either a workplace activity or complete observed skills practice. The observed practice can be completed in a virtual setting or in simulated workplace conditions.

There are currently 7 assessments that require students to complete workplace based observed activity. For each of these 7 assessments, we have created an alternate method for the assessment to be completed and for evidence to be uploaded into accessIQ.

IPPISP002Conducted, on at least one occasion, packing a cooler with vaccines to maintain cold chain in the event of a breach. Performed, at least once, a vaccine fridge audit in the workplace.Face to Face Workshop: Packing a cooler activity is now included in the workshop. Students observed by our qualified assessor.

Virtual Workshop: Packing the cooler still required to be completed external to the workshop but can be completed in a range of environments.

Fridge Audit: Still required to be completed external to the workshop but can be completed in a range of environments.

IPPPPV003Perform vaccination under supervision in the workplace, in accordance with national immunisation guidelines and organisational policies and procedures, on:

  • 3 adults and
  • 5 children <12 months old and
  • 5 children >12 months old including a
  • minimum of 1 child at 18 months and two children at 4 years old
This activity is now included in the workshop. Students are assessed under the observation of a qualified assessor.

*Students completing the course in Tasmania will be required to complete workplace based assessment.

For Students who have completed their workshop. They can complete a Plan and Perform Document and this can be uploaded to accessIQ.

IPPINP004Provided advice to at least three different clients in the workplace, on recommendations for immunisation during pregnancy.Upload scenario to accessIQ.
IPPDIV005Using clinical software in the workplace, search and identify 20 eligible clients for Influenza vaccine including:

  • Children and Pregnant women
  • People with chronic disease
  • Over 65 years old
  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Healthcare workers
