About Paediatric Assessment

The importance of the first 2000 days and how primary care nurses can shape the future of health.

Paediatric health and physical assessment are fundamental aspects of care that focus on assessing the well-being and development of children from infancy through adolescence. 

Conducting a thorough and accurate assessment is crucial in identifying any deviations from normal growth and development, detecting potential health issues, and providing early intervention to promote optimal outcomes.

The program delivered by Benchmarque Group is focussed on:

  • How to have an appropriate conversation with the parent or caregiver
  • Undertaking a quality, comprehensive health check
  • Assessment of the unwell child
  • Assessment of the well child and developmental assessment
  • Escalation and planning
  • Support networks for mothers and providers
  • Health pathways

The program is delivered as a one-day in-person workshop delivered by a team of expert facilitators. The program includes both knowledge and skills.

The learning will be aligned with the principles of the Children's Health Queensland guidelines and align with the recommended checks included within the child's Red Book (personal health record).

I have been a Registered Nurse in Primary Health Care since 2017. I am passionate about providing holistic Care to patients, no matter what walk of life they are from. I have a keen interest in mentoring new graduate nurses and teaching fundamental skills building them from the ground up.

I have advanced practice skills in Paediatric growth and development, Wound management and skin closure as well as training and assessing in clinic.

I am a Registered Nurse with post-grad certificates in immunisation, Cannulation, Suturing and Training and Assessment. I am passionate about teaching New graduate Nurses in Primary health and am a guide and mentor to many nurses in Primary Care. I enjoy upskilling and assisting other health professionals to reach their full potential and work to the full scope of their practice.

I have a special interest in wound Care and Early Childhood Health and Development (The first 2000 days).

Paediatric Assessments Trainer

I am a Registered Nurse, Midwife, Public Health Nurse, Immunisation Practice Nurse, Disaster Response Nurse and Nurse Leader and Manager with over 40 years of experience.

I have gained experience whilst working for public and private hospitals, State and Commonwealth government departments of health and international aid organisations.

I have experience working in rural and remote communities in the Northern Territory and Thursday Island, delivering health care in developing and disadvantaged communities overseas and delivering humanitarian international aid and working with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Communities in Australia and Overseas.

I have undertaken further training in Disease and Outbreak Investigation and Management through GOARN (Global Outbreak and Alert Response Network / WHO) in Campot, Cambodia 2008, and Emergency Response Unit (ERU) training by the Australian and Norwegian Red Cross in Indonesia in 2017.

The Paediatric Assessment Workshops supported by NQPHN will be held across 3 regions in their catchment area. Below are the dates and locations of these workshops.
